The Joy of Togetherness

The holiday season is here and it’s that time of the year where we get to spend all our time with our family and loved ones. During this time, it’s usually a full house with a whole lot of relatives from all over the world who make their way into our homes. While there is so much happening at home with so many people around, it becomes difficult to entertain our kids and prevent them from getting bored. Here are some fun tips from the team of ABC Montessori to keep your kids entertained while you get to spend some fun time with them.

Cooking is part of our daily lives; won’t it be fun to involve our kids in it too? Especially when you’re preparing some delectable sweet treats for the holiday season. While you’re in the kitchen stirring up some delicious delights you can always ask your kids to help you out but, make sure you keep them away from sharp objects. Having a baking spree with your kids is not a bad idea too. Pick one day and dedicate it to preparing your kids favourite food items and make sure to keep them involved in the process.

Another fun thing that can be done is a reading marathon. Buy a book of short stories specially for the holiday season and make sure you guys finish it before the vacations end. Reading aloud to your kids will make them more attentive and will turn them into fast learners. Involve your kids in the story telling process. Make sure you have some pictures to help illustrate the story in order to build the imagination of your kids.

Kids are fidgety by nature so it’s important for us to keep them busy with the right things at all times. You can buy a whole lot of craft material like ice-cream sticks, origami paper, straws, sponge, paint etc. and give your child a new theme each day and ask him/her to paint or create something fun with the material you provide them. And don’t just leave it on them, make sure you get involved as well, help them and guide them while they’re in the process of making their masterpieces.

Children who spend time with their parents participating in activities together build a positive sense of self-worth. When children feel that they are valued by their parents, they feel more positive about themselves. Family activities don’t have to be expensive to make them meaningful, the important part is just being together. You could go for a bike ride or play a game together. Children learn by example. If you are setting a good example for them by spending quality time together, they are more likely to adopt those behaviours in other relationships in their lives. Simple things like playing games together will help them understand more about interacting with others as well as teach them things like sharing and kindness.

Most importantly, family time means you can just have fun and enjoy each other’s company! You’ve still got a little bit of time left before the children go back to school so make the most of it this holiday season and do something exciting together.

Let’s Bring Joy To Our Tiny Angels This Holiday Season

When we think of Christmas and kids, there are several things that come to mind—decorations, toys and sweets to name a few. Despite the anticipation of Santa arriving with tons of gifts for children, the holiday season is much more meaningful for little ones than we may realize. So, just what does Christmas and the holiday season really mean to kids?

By far the most important aspect of Christmas time for kids is time spent with their loved ones. The winter holidays represent one of the fun times of the year families can take some time off from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to really enjoy being with one another. Sometimes, kids can feel ignored when their parents are busy trying to balance work and home life, despite how hard mom and dad try to give them the attention they need. After all, there are only so many hours in the day!  During the winter break, though, everyone can take a break from their normal schedules to appreciate the most important people in their lives. Whether you’re cooking together, wrapping presents, watching Christmas movies on TV, or simply hanging out together in the family room, all kids enjoy being surrounded by family members who love them. For most kids, the more the merrier—children love being with mom, dad, and siblings, but they also enjoy having time to get together with grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles too! Family time spent together make the holidays truly magical for little ones.

Kids live in the moment, doing their best to enjoy every second of the day as it passes. Our children at ABC had a fun craft session for Christmas decorations where they made Santa masks, Christmas bells and Santa socks from scratch. The atmosphere in the school was filled with laughter, cheer and excitement with little children giggling away in joy. It is the warmth of their smile and the gleam in their eyes that lights up our lives and we must try to keep it intact. This winter break, let’s devote some quality time to our little angels because without them our lives would be meaningless. A very Merry Christmas from the entire team of ABC Montessori.

Jingle Bells are Ringing at ABC Montessori!

Christmas is celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the Son of God. The name ‘Christmas’ comes from the Mass of Christ (or Jesus). A Mass service (which is sometimes called Communion or Eucharist) is where Christians remember that Jesus died for us and then came back to life. The ‘Christ-Mass’ service was the only one that could take place after sunset (and before sunrise the next day), so people had it at midnight! So, we get the name Christ-Mass, shortened to Christmas.

Christmas is now celebrated by people around the world, whether they are Christians or not. It’s a time when family and friends come together and remember the good things they have. People, and especially children, also like Christmas as it’s a time when you give and receive presents!

This week was surround by Christmassy feels for our little ones at ABC Montessori. We started off the week with a Christmas craft activity where our enthusiastic students made a whole lot of artsy decorations for Christmas with the help of our warm and helpful teachers. With cut-outs, to drawings, to origami, the entire craft day was dedicated towards making the most beautiful, vibrant and innovative decorations and drawings.

Wednesday took a fun turn of events when our little angles had an exciting excursion at the nearby Church. The purpose of this visit was to educate our children about Christmas, why we celebrate it, the festivities around it and the tradition that follows this lively festival. The kids offered their prayers to Lord Jesus and lit candles to garner his blessings. They were taught about the importance of hanging stockings, carolling, the colour combination of red and green and the tradition of decorating the Christmas tree and gifting people presents

Learning at its best, the Montessori way

The Montessori Method of education, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood.

Dr. Montessori’s Method has been time tested, with over 100 years of success in diverse cultures throughout the world. It is a view of the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It is an approach that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional, cognitive.

Components necessary for a program to be considered authentically Montessori include multiage groupings that foster peer learning, uninterrupted blocks of work time, and guided choice of work activity. In addition, a full complement of specially designed Montessori learning materials is meticulously arranged and available for use in an aesthetically pleasing environment.

The teacher, child, and environment create a learning triangle. The classroom is prepared by the teacher to encourage independence, freedom within limits, and a sense of order. The child, through individual choice, makes use of what the environment offers to develop himself, interacting with the teacher when support and/or guidance is needed.

Dr. Montessori observed that children experience sensitive periods, or windows of opportunity, as they grow. As their students develop, Montessori teachers match appropriate lessons and materials to these sensitive periods when learning is most naturally absorbed and internalized.

In early childhood, Montessori students learn through sensory-motor activities, working with materials that develop their cognitive powers through direct experience: seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, touching, and movement.

The Montessori system is the time-tested, well-researched education reform which is acclaimed around the world and is in great demand across the world. We continuously keep on associating with leading Montessori organizations and entities, by virtue of which we are benefited with the guidelines and latest development in Montessori world.

ABC Montessori has adopted the Montessori methodology bestowed upon the world by one of the leading advocates of Early Childhood Education for educating and nurturing young children. It is a proven fact that 50% of child’s adult intelligence and 90% of adult brain patterns are developed in first five years of age. The Montessori concept helps the child in these most crucial formative years. The concept is based on the fact that every child has unique capabilities and pace of learning. It endorses the fact that children are always eager to explore new things and learn and master new skills.

The practical life exercises are the very foundation for the Montessori classroom. Concentration and development stem from these essential exercises. These activities help in guiding children about “care for self”, “care for environment”, courtesy, social grace and developing fine & gross motor skills. Montessori students learn to think critically, work collaboratively, and act boldly—a skill set for the 21st century.

ABC Montessori- Laying the strongest foundation for your tiny tots

Montessori education was founded in 1907 by Dr. Maria Montessori, the first woman in Italy to become a physician. She based her educational methods on scientific observation of children’s learning processes. Guided by her discovery that children teach themselves, Dr. Montessori designed a “prepared environment” in which children could freely choose from numerous developmentally appropriate activities.

ABC Montessori is an ISO certified unit of an educational trust with a mission to nurture, inspire, and support development of strong successful Montessori preschools across India and abroad as a part of its endeavour to improve education.

Our education system emphasizes on learning through all five senses and not just through listening, watching, or reading. Children in Montessori classes learn at their own, individual pace and according to their own choice of activities from hundreds of possibilities that focuses on enhancing their innate intelligence and helps in highlighting their latent skills.

Our classes place children in age groups starting as early as 18 months onwards. The Montessori way of imparting education represents an entirely different approach to learning. Research studies have shown that Montessori children are well prepared for the future years, academically, socially, and emotionally.

This system of education ensures accelerated growth of children by allowing them to explore, examine, and investigate the environment. The freedom they enjoy in deciding their activities help them develop their potential talents and imagination to the optimum level in a highly nourishing and nurturing classroom environment. Contrary to conventional approach, the Montessori education has contemporary outlook towards children’s growth and development (cognitive, physical, social, emotional and psychological)

ABC Montessori has adopted the Montessori methodology bestowed upon the world by one of the leading advocates of Early Childhood Education for educating and nurturing young children and we feel that ABC Montessori is the right institution to set up the learning foundation for your little ones.
